OBSERVATION
Task 1: Choosing candidate
From the observation, the users tend to call out a candidate from the provided list of candidates before scanning people around the class. Next, some of the users does not understand the use of the frame/camera interface provided which the function initially is used to scan the people around the class. Overall, the average of the users to complete the task is 33 seconds.
Task 2: Find people
From the observation, the users are able to complete the task given. The users are able to key in the person info and start finding around using the camera interface. In the end, the users are able to find the targeted person and exchange the contact. Overall, the average of the users to complete the task is 32 seconds.
Task 3: Collect attendance
From the observation, the users are able to collect the attendance of the people in the class smoothly. The users scan through the class using the camera interface and got the results of the attendance list. On overall, the average of the users to complete the task is 20 seconds.
Post-testing interview
- Do
you think that this app can fix the flaw of the current way of collecting
attendance?
user 1 : Yes, with the face recognition, attendance cheating is now fully impossible.
user 2 : Yes because only detected faces are recorded as attend.
user 3 : I think there will be no attendance cheating once this app is implemented.
user 4 : Yes, I think only students with more than real 80% attendance can take final exam.
user 5 : Of course, there will no longer any cheating.
- Do
you think that the students can be benefited with this application?
user 1 : Yes, this app can make sure that everybody will participate in the class. So, nobody will be left out.
user 2 : With this innovative way of collecting attendance, I think this can motivate the lazy students to attend the classes.
user 3 : Yes, we can find the person that we haven’t seen before with this app.
user 4 : I think the inactive students will have to work harder since they will be asked with question at the class anytime.
user 5 : We can find our assigned group members that we don’t know easily and start the discussion faster. This will save a lot of time.
- What
problems did you encountered while using the prototype?
user 1 : At first, I don’t know I have aim around the camera. This is due to lack of instruction to do so.
user 2 : The “back to main menu” button is there while the instruction is telling me to wait for the my exchange contact to response. I am not sure whether I should wait or back to the main menu.
user 3 : There should be an instruction that tell me to aim around the camera.
user 4 : I think the app lack of an instruction that tell me to check for notification about someone had accepted my request.
user 5 : I think there should be a instruction that tell me to click on the “notification” button on the main menu so that I can see my accepted request or incoming requests.
- Do
you think that this app can help you to find a target person?
user 1 : I think I don’t have to ask around anymore with this app.
user 2 : Definitely! With the help of this app, I won’t have to waste time finding a group member that is assigned to me.
user 3 : Yes, this app comes in handy.
user 4 : I think yes. I am also feel that this is a very smart way to find a person.
user 5 : Yes, of course!
- Is
this application easy to use?
user 1 : Yes, the interface is straight forward and the icons are easy to understand
user 2 : The icons clearly indicate their function, I don’t need to waste time to figure it out.
user 3 : I think the I can easily tell the function just by looking at the icons.
user 4 : It is very easy in my opinion. All I have to do is to aim around the camera to do the tasks.
user 5 : It is easy because all tasks can be done with just a few taps.
FINDINGS
Usability problems

1. “Scanning face” feature does not provide clear and obvious instruction for users. Users do not know what to do next when they get such kind of interface. In fact, its function is to scan through the faces based on different scenario.

2. In exchanging contact, users always press “Back to main menu” button instead of waiting for the apps to respond and get the contact details. There is no noticeable guide for users to check through the request sent.
Possible solutions
Confusing scanning process
To make the scanning process less confusing, a few intermediate screens with step by step guide is inserted .
1. Scan to choose a candidate

2. Scan to collect attendance

3. Scan to find target person

4. Scan to identify person

Confusion after sending exchange contact request
Instead of the vague instruction “You have successfully sent request to exchange content”, a clearer instruction is inserted to tell user where should they check their request.
